A calendar in Welsh

This page sets the calendar maker’s Calendar language to Cymraeg: month names from Ionawr to Rhagfyr, weekday headings Llun to Sul, and the bank holidays of Wales under the names gov.uk uses on its Welsh-language page. Everything prints in Welsh on A4, with weeks starting on Monday as is usual in Wales, and the page moves on to the next year in September. The table under this text gives each holiday in English and Welsh.

Writing dates the Welsh way

Welsh dates put the day before the month and use no ordinals: 1 Ionawr 2027, not “1af Ionawr” or “Ionawr 1”, as the Welsh Government’s style guide sets out, and in running text the day name mutates (“ddydd Gwener, 1 Ionawr”). The calendar follows that in its short dates too, so a holiday legend reads “25 Rhag” and a weekly page “4–10 Ionawr 2027”. One word does double duty: Mawrth is both March and Tuesday (Maw in short), which the grid keeps apart by position.

When a holiday falls at the weekend

gov.uk puts it in Welsh: “Os yw gŵyl banc yn cwympo ar benwythnos, bydd dydd o’r wythnos yn dod yn ŵyl banc ‘amgen’ yn ei le, fel arfer y dydd Llun canlynol.” The calendar marks those weekdays as “diwrnod amgen”, so Christmas 2027 shows Dydd Nadolig (diwrnod amgen) on Monday 27 and Dydd San Steffan (diwrnod amgen) on Tuesday 28 December.
