The public holidays
Section 44 of the Holidays Act 2003 gives everyone eleven national public holidays: New Year’s Day and 2 January, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the King’s Birthday on the first Monday in June, Matariki, Labour Day on the fourth Monday in October, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The twelfth is your region’s anniversary day. The calendar prints them on A4 with Monday-first weeks, January to December, and moves on to the next year in September.
Mondayised days on the calendar
Six holidays can move when they land on a weekend: New Year’s Day, 2 January, Waitangi Day, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The calendar prints the holiday in grey on its real date and again in red, marked “observed”, on the weekday it moves to, the day most people get off. If you normally work that Saturday or Sunday, the holiday stays on the weekend for you instead. Good Friday, Easter Monday, the King’s Birthday, Matariki and Labour Day never move.
Anniversary days
Choose your region under Anniversary day and its day is added to the calendar. Most regions keep the Monday nearest the anniversary of the province’s founding, but several have their own rule: Taranaki takes the second Monday in March to stay clear of Easter, Southland takes Easter Tuesday, Hawke’s Bay the Friday before Labour Day, Marlborough the Monday after it, South Canterbury the fourth Monday in September and North and Central Canterbury the Friday of the Christchurch show. The dates in the table follow the days Employment New Zealand lists as observed, which vary locally in Otago and Westland.
Other calendars
School terms here follow the calendar year, so the January-to-December layout fits a school year too: tick Fillable PDF and type the term dates into the day boxes (the fillable calendar explains how). Irish holidays are on the Ireland calendar, and the calendar maker prints any other range, layout or paper size.
