How to play

  1. Pick your lane. The car steers itself down the middle of its lane and speeds up the whole time; your job is to be in the right one. Press ← and → (or A and D), tap the left or right half of the road, or swipe. Two quick presses move two lanes.
  2. Get past the traffic. Cars, vans, pickups, trucks and buses share the four lanes at their own speeds, and the heavy ones keep to the right. A car about to change lanes flashes its indicator for over a second first, so watch the amber lights.
  3. Collect coins and power-ups. Coins line up along the lanes. Now and then a nitro bottle, a shield or a magnet floats over the road.
  4. Crash and it's over, unless a shield is up or you pay 150 coins to revive, once per run. You keep every coin you picked up either way.

Near misses, combos and score

Your score is one point for every meter, two while nitro burns, plus bonuses. The big bonus is the near miss: stay in a vehicle's lane until you're less than about half a second from hitting it, then swerve out and get past cleanly. That's 100 points, and each near miss within three seconds of the last one raises the combo (200, 300, and so on up to ×8). A swerve made early, with plenty of room, earns nothing: the bonus is for nerve. A wet road makes it harder, because the car takes longer to change lanes and wobbles as it settles.

The cars

Every car starts in its own colour and can be repainted in the garage. They differ a little in top speed, in how quickly they change lanes and in how far the magnet reaches. A faster car scores quicker, but the traffic comes at you sooner.

Coins also buy upgrades that work with every car: longer nitro (from 3 s up to 6 s), a longer shield (from 8 s up to 18 s) and a higher coin value (up to ×2).

Five biomes, day and night

The scenery changes every 2.5 km: Meadow Countryside, Coastal Road, Desert Highway, Night City, Snowy Mountains, then round again. The sun sets as you reach the desert, the city is always lit up at night, and dawn breaks over the mountains, though on later laps the time of day drifts. Rain, snow and fog roll in for a kilometre or so at a time. At night your headlights light up the road ahead and every other car shows its tail lights.

Missions

Three missions are always running, such as near-missing 10 cars in one run, driving 5 km at night or reaching the Desert Highway. Each pays its coins once, the moment you finish it. After the run it's replaced by a harder one, so every run has something to aim for.

Tips

  • Look further ahead than the next car. Trucks and buses are long and block a lane for a while; plan the lane after next.
  • Save nitro for a clear stretch: it doubles your points but gives you less time to react.
  • Spend your first coins on a car that changes lanes faster, like the Coast Roadster. Quick hands matter more than top speed early on.
  • Keep 150 coins in hand before a long run if you want the safety net.
  • Playing with a controller? The d-pad or left stick changes lanes, A or the right trigger fires nitro, Start pauses. If it drifts or misses presses, check it with the controller tester.

Want another game? Try Golf, a 2D golf game with a daily course, or 2048. To see how fast your own reactions are away from the road, take the reaction time test.
