What this page sets up
January to December 2027, one month per page, with the four primary moon phases marked in their day boxes: a filled circle for the new moon, an open circle for the full moon, and a half-filled circle for each quarter, with the phase’s name and local time below. Holidays follow your browser’s country as on the main calendar maker. The page moves on to the next year in September.
How the phases are timed
A phase is an instant, not a day. The new moon is the moment the Moon and Sun share the same ecliptic longitude, the full moon the moment they are opposite, and the quarters the moments in between. Meeus’s method computes each instant from the Moon’s and Sun’s mean motions with some forty periodic corrections. The table under this text lists the phases of 2027 in UTC to the minute. The calendar converts the same instants into your time zone, which is why the page says which zone it used.
Planning by the moon
Gardeners who plant by the moon sow leafy crops in the waxing moon, between new and full; anglers and photographers look for the full and new moons, the new moon for dark skies. Tides are highest in the days after new and full moon, the spring tides. The Jewish, Islamic and Chinese calendars begin their months at or just after the new moon, so their holidays keep to a phase of the moon.
Other calendars
For the Jewish festivals, which follow the moon, open the Jewish holidays calendar. A week on each page with the phases is a tick away on the weekly calendar, and the calendar maker prints any other range.
Moon phases in 2027 (UTC)
Dates and times are in Coordinated Universal Time, to the minute. The calendar above uses your device's time zone, so a phase close to midnight can land on the next or previous day there.
