What this page sets up
Both years on one portrait page, four months across and six rows down, so 2027 fills the top three rows and 2028 the bottom three. Federal holidays are shaded, and the list along the bottom gives their dates with the year, since two Januaries share the page. When both years’ holidays and their observed days don’t fit, the list keeps the days off. The page moves on by a year every September.
When two years help
Some plans don’t fit in one calendar year: a lease or a contract that runs 12 to 24 months, a warranty, a pregnancy, a training plan for a race next autumn, a school or fiscal year that crosses New Year. On a two-year sheet you can mark the start and end dates and count the months between them at a glance. It also helps to compare next year’s holidays with this year’s before you book time off, which is what the table below the text is for.
How holidays move between the years
Holidays on a fixed date, such as Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day and Christmas, move one weekday later from one year to the next, or two after a leap day. When one lands on a Saturday the federal day off is the Friday before, and on a Sunday the Monday after, so a long weekend can appear in one year and not the other. The Monday holidays and Thanksgiving keep their weekday and change date by up to six days.
Other layouts
For one year on a page, open the yearly calendar; for a US school year from August to July, the school year calendar. The calendar maker prints any 1 to 24 months in any layout.
Federal holidays in 2027 and 2028
The same holiday moves by a weekday or two from one year to the next, and by more for the ones set as a Monday or Thursday of a month. Where a holiday falls on a weekend, the day off is shown after it.
