How to use the height comparison chart

1. Pick your units: centimetres or feet and inches. You can switch at any time. The chart always shows both scales, one on each side.
2. Add people: type a name and height, pick a figure (man, woman, child or generic) and a color, then press Add. You can compare up to 12 people.
3. Adjust names, heights, figures and colors right in the list. Use the arrows to change the order, or sort tallest or shortest first.
4. Save or share: Download PNG saves a sharp, high-resolution image, and Copy share link creates a link that rebuilds the same chart.

Everything is drawn to scale: a person who is 10% taller is drawn exactly 10% taller, from the top of the head to the soles of the feet. With exactly two people, a bracket between them shows the difference, and the summary tells you where the shorter person’s eyes land on the taller one.

Comparing heights as a couple

Height difference is one of the most searched questions for couples: how will a 5′4″ and a 6′0″ couple look side by side in photos, or who has to look up at whom? Enter both heights and the chart shows the gap in centimetres and inches, the percentage difference, and a rough guide to eye level (for example “level with his chin”). Turn on the eye-level line for one person to see it drawn across the chart.

The eye-level estimate uses standard body proportions: for adults, eye height is about 93.6% of total height, chin height about 87%, and shoulder height about 82% (Drillis and Contini’s segment proportions, widely used in biomechanics). Real faces and postures vary by a few centimetres, so treat it as a guide, not a measurement.

Average heights for reference

The Average US man vs. woman example uses the most recent CDC figures for adults aged 20 and over (NHANES 2015–2018): 175.3 cm (5′ 9″) for men and 161.3 cm (5′ 3.5″) for women. Averages vary a lot between countries and generations, so compare against real people when you can.

How to measure your height accurately

• Stand barefoot on a hard floor with your heels, back and head against a wall, looking straight ahead.
• Lay a hardback book flat on your head, level it against the wall, and mark the underside. Measure from the floor to the mark.
• Measure in the morning if you can. Most people are about 1 cm taller after a night’s sleep than in the evening, because the discs in the spine compress during the day.
• Shoes add height too: typically 2–3 cm for sneakers and much more for heels or boots. Add that on if you want to compare how you look in a photo.

Characters, celebrities and your own photos

Fans often compare characters from games, anime and films. Enter the official height from the character’s profile and use a silhouette. To use art or a photo, press Photo on that person’s row and pick an image from your device. It is scaled so the top of the image sits at their height and the bottom touches the ground, so crop it tightly first; transparent PNG cut-outs are trimmed automatically. Images stay in your browser and are left out of share links, so only share images you have the right to use.

Heights up to 10 metres are supported, so giants, statues or a tall doorway work too. Use the generic figure for objects.
