Merge PDF Files into One

Combine PDFs and images, put every page in the order you want, rotate or remove pages, and download one PDF. Your files never leave your device.

Choose PDFs or drop them hereTwo or more PDFs, plus JPG or PNG images if you like. Merged on your device, never uploaded.

How to merge PDF files

  1. Add your files. Drop two or more PDFs onto the box, or tap it to pick them. You can add JPG and PNG images too; each becomes one page. Add more at any time with Add files.
  2. Put the pages in order. Every page appears as a thumbnail, marked with its file's letter and colour. Drag a page to move it, or drag a file in the list to move all of its pages at once.
  3. Fix what's wrong. Rotate sideways pages with the turn buttons and remove blank or unwanted pages with the bin. Undo delete brings the last removed page back.
  4. Merge and download. Tap Merge and then Download merged PDF. The new file is made on your device; a progress bar shows how far it has got.

Your files stay on your device

Most online PDF mergers upload your files to their servers, cap you at a few files or pages a day, or ask you to sign up. This one runs entirely in your browser: the thumbnails are drawn by pdf.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF reader, and the merged file is assembled by pdf-lib, both served from this site. No file, page or file name is sent anywhere, which matters for tax forms, contracts, payslips and medical records. There are no caps beyond your device's memory.

What is kept when you merge

The pages are assembled by pdf.js's page editor, the same code Firefox uses to merge PDFs, so far more than the visible page comes along. Text stays selectable and searchable, fonts and drawings stay sharp, and images keep their quality. Fillable form fields stay fillable, with what was already typed in them. Links that jump to another page of the same file still land on that page after you reorder, and web links keep working. Each file's bookmarks (the outline panel) are kept and grouped under a bookmark named after the file, so a merged pack of statements opens with one entry per statement.

Two things change on purpose. When two files have a form field with the same name, the second one is renamed (for example name_2): fields that share a name are one field in a PDF, so typing in one would fill both. The result lists every rename. And a link or bookmark that points at a page you deleted is left out, because it would lead nowhere.

Rotation is added on top of each page's own. If a scanned page was stored sideways and your PDF viewer already showed it upright, it shows upright here too, and one tap of a turn button turns it by a quarter from there.

Password-protected and restricted PDFs

When a PDF needs a password to open, a password box appears next to it in the file list. The password is only used to open the file in this tab. Its pages are merged like any other, text included, so a bank statement stays searchable. The same goes for PDFs that open freely but carry editing restrictions. The merged file itself has no password and no restrictions, and the result says so; if it has to stay protected, add a password in a PDF app before you send it.

Merging on a phone

Pick files from the Files app on an iPhone, or from Downloads or Drive on Android. To drag a page, hold its grip (the six dots) and move it; anywhere else on the page your finger scrolls the list as usual. Phones have much less memory than computers, so keep a single merge to roughly 150 MB of files. If a merge stops with a memory message, merge in two batches and then merge the two results.

Troubleshooting

  • "Not a PDF, or damaged": the file doesn't start like a PDF. Re-download it, or open it in a viewer and print it to a new PDF.
  • A page looks blank in the thumbnail: some PDFs use features the preview can't draw. The page itself is still copied as it is; check it in the merged file.
  • The merged file is large: merging adds the files together. Shrink it with the PDF compressor, which re-encodes photos and scans and leaves text sharp.
  • You need images, not a PDF: turn pages into JPG or PNG with PDF to JPG.

To sign the merged document, open it in Sign PDF and place your signature and the date. Photos for an application that has to stay under a size limit can be shrunk first with theimage compressor.
