Nova Scotia Calendar 2027 with Stat Holidays

Six paid holidays

The Labour Standards Code gives Nova Scotians six paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Nova Scotia Heritage Day on the third Monday of February, Good Friday, Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day. That’s fewer than most provinces, with no Victoria Day, Thanksgiving or Boxing Day. They print in red for 2027; the table under this text lists them, and the page moves on to the next year in September.

Retail closing days

Nova Scotia keeps a second list: the days most retail businesses must close. It adds Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Boxing Day to the paid holidays, which is why the shops are shut on 26 December even though it isn’t a paid day off. The calendar marks those three in grey as retail closing days. Remembrance Day has its own Act and must be observed on 11 November; it’s grey too, with that note.

Weekends and pay

A paid holiday isn’t moved when it lands on a weekend or a day off. Instead the employee is owed another day off with holiday pay, which the employer arranges.
