New South Wales public holidays
Section 4 of the Public Holidays Act 2010 lists eleven days: New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the King’s Birthday on the second Monday in June, Labour Day on the first Monday in October, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The calendar prints them for 2027 in red, on A4 with weeks that start on Monday, and the table under this text gives the day off for each. From September it shows the next year.
Additional days and Australia Day
The Act has two different weekend rules. New Year’s Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day stay public holidays on a Saturday or Sunday and also bring an additional weekday, which the calendar prints as an “additional day”. Australia Day is moved instead: when 26 January is a weekend day, there’s no holiday on the 26th and the following Monday takes its place. Anzac Day has no rule in the Act at all, which is why the Mondays in 2026 and 2027 needed a ministerial order.
Bank holiday, shops and local days
The first Monday in August is printed grey because it’s a holiday for banks and some financial institutions, not for other employers; shops, schools and offices open as usual. Separately, the Retail Trading Act 2008 keeps most larger shops closed on a few restricted trading days, including Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and on the morning of Anzac Day. Councils can also ask for local public holidays or local event days under the Act, often for a show; those apply only in the area named.
School terms
NSW public schools have four terms, and the Department of Education publishes the dates, which differ slightly between the eastern and western divisions. Holidays for school students aren’t public holidays, so they aren’t printed: tick Fillable PDF and type the term dates in, or print and write them.
Other states
The other states and territories have their own pages, reached from the Australia calendar; the ACT calendar is the one for Canberra. Any other range or layout starts from the calendar maker.
