Jersey and Guernsey Calendar 2027 with Bank Holidays

The islands’ holidays

Jersey and Guernsey set their own bank and public holidays: Jersey under the Public Holidays and Bank Holidays (Jersey) Law 1951 and the Act made under it in 2010, and Guernsey under the Public Holidays Ordinance, 2009. In practice both follow England’s eight bank holidays and add Liberation Day on 9 May. The calendar marks all nine for 2027 on A4 with Monday-first weeks, and the table under this text lists them with their substitute days. It moves on to the next year in September.

Liberation Day

9 May marks the day in 1945 when the German occupation of the islands ended, the day after VE Day. It’s the islands’ own holiday, kept with services, parades and street parties in St Helier and St Peter Port. Unlike New Year’s Day or Christmas, it isn’t moved when it lands on a weekend: in 2026 it’s a Saturday and in 2027 a Sunday, and in neither year is a weekday given instead.

Weekend rules

When New Year’s Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day falls on a weekend, the islands give the next weekdays, just as England does, so Christmas 2027 brings Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December off. Christmas Day and Good Friday are customary holidays rather than statutory ones, but they’re kept everywhere.
