How to add a widget to your site
- Choose the tool above. Tools with pages set up for one case (a PS5 controller, a noisy classroom, a list of NBA teams) can open that way: pick it under Set up for.
- Pick the theme. Auto follows your page's color scheme or the visitor's system setting. Choose Light or Dark to match your site, and Transparent background if your page has its own background color.
- Set the size. Full width fits the widget to your content column; the height is our recommendation for each tool, and you can change it. The widget scrolls inside its frame if it needs more room.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page's HTML (in WordPress, use a Custom HTML block). Keep the whole snippet, including the
allowattribute and the link under the frame.
Why the code asks for permissions
Browsers block a page inside a frame from using the microphone, camera, controllers and a few other features unless the page around it allows them. The allow attribute in the code does that, only for this frame. Your visitors still see their browser's usual prompt before a microphone or camera turns on, and the widget can't use anything the code doesn't list.
If you remove a permission, the widget says so where the tool would have needed it and offers to open the tool on Meadow Tools instead. A few notes by browser:
- Controllers: Chrome and Edge may need
allow="gamepad"before a frame from another site can read controllers, and will need it in future versions. Keep it in the code. - DualSense and DualShock 4 extras (motion, touchpad, battery, lights) use WebHID, which only Chrome and Edge have, and only with
hidallowed. - Full screen needs
allow="fullscreen"; the code also addsallowfullscreenfor older Safari. - Microphone and camera also need your page to load over HTTPS.
Terms of use
- Free, on any site, commercial or not. No sign-up and no key.
- Keep the attribution. Leave the link under the frame and the credit inside the widget as they are, and don't cover or crop them.
- No endorsement. Showing a widget doesn't mean Meadow Tools endorses your site, product or service, or the other way round. Don't suggest that it does.
- As is. We keep the widgets working and may change or improve them, which changes what your visitors see.
- Don't frame our regular pages; use the embed code. Everything else follows our terms.
Privacy
The widgets run entirely in your visitors' browsers, like the tools on this site: sound, video, controller input and results never leave their device. Widgets load no Google Analytics, set no cookies and show no ads. Cloudflare, our host, may count page loads anonymously, as it does on this site. More in our privacy policy.
