Asr
First day of Ramadan

A day earlier isn't expected: the new moon is at 15:56 UTC on Saturday 6 February, too young to be seen by eye that evening.

More options: Imsak, clock, high latitudes, adjust to your mosque

Only used where the sun doesn't go far enough below the horizon for the method's Fajr or Isha angle, or where it would put them unreasonably deep into the night (far north or south). Times it changes are underlined.

Adjust to match your mosque (minutes)

Ramadan begins when the new crescent moon is sighted, or on the date your community's calendar sets, so it can start a day later in some countries and mosques. Choose the first day your mosque or moon-sighting committee announces. These times are calculated: check them against your local mosque's timetable.

Cape Town’s Ramadan day

If Ramadan 2027 begins on Monday 8 February 2027, the first sehri in Cape Town ends at 04:42 and the first iftaar is at 19:46, so the first fast is 15 h 04 m. The thirtieth day runs from 05:16 to 19:13, 13 h 57 m. Every row of the table under the tool has that day’s suhoor, sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, iftaar and Isha, and how long the fast lasts.

West and south: why the Cape is different

South Africa keeps one time zone, and Cape Town sits at its far south-western corner. Being west puts sunrise and sunset later by the clock: about 4 minutes for each degree of longitude, about 40 to 50 minutes against Johannesburg. Being south makes the days longer whenever Ramadan falls in the southern summer, so Cape Town’s fasts run longer than Gauteng’s or KwaZulu-Natal’s, about half an hour longer than Johannesburg’s at the start of Ramadan 2027. Don’t borrow a timetable from family up north: the Johannesburg timetable is right for Gauteng only.

Matching your masjid’s sheet

The tool calculates the same method for every South African city. The Johannesburg page explains it, along with the Hanafi Asr switch and the minute offsets. In short: if your local masjid’s printed Fajr or Isha is a few minutes away from this table, pick its method or nudge the times with an offset; Maghrib, the time that matters for iftaar, is sunset and barely depends on the method.

Beyond the city

Towns further up the West Coast or inland in the Western Cape have their own sunsets. Search for yours at the top of the tool and print that table instead. The PDF prints on A4, and the calendar export puts each day’s sehri and iftaar on your phone with alerts.
