Valspar’s US lineup, loaded
Valspar Reserve Interior Paint + Primer is where this paint calculator starts. valspar.com rates a gallon of it at 400 square feet and sells it by the quart, the gallon and the 5-gallon pail, and those become the can sizes. The room already filled in, walls and ceiling at two coats, comes to 2.49 gallons: two gallons and two quarts, or 3 gallons if you would rather skip the quarts.
Ultra and Signature interior paints, Signature Ceiling Paint + Primer, and the Duramax and Defense exterior lines are in the same menu. Choosing one swaps in its coverage and its container sizes. The ceiling paint lists 1 recommended coat, so picking it sets Coats to 1.
Ranges versus single figures
Valspar gives some lines a single figure and others a wide range: Signature is 200–400 sq ft per gallon, Defense 250–400. Working from the bottom of a range, a range line can look twice as thirsty as Reserve on paper. The spread depends on the surface: bare drywall and rough siding sit near the low end, previously painted smooth walls near the top.
