Nippon Paint’s Malaysian range
The paint calculator opens with Odour-less AirCare Matt picked, at 9 m² per litre, which is the low end of the “9 – 11 m2 per litre per coat” on its product page. Its packs, 1, 5 and 15 litres, come from its technical data sheet. The bedroom set up in the calculator takes about 11 litres for walls and ceiling at the two coats Nippon recommends: two 5 litre packs and one 1 litre.
Spot-less Plus Matt, Vinilex Fresh Plus, Matex Gold Ultra White for ceilings, and three Weatherbond and WeatherGold exterior paints are also in the menu.
Theoretical coverage and loss
Nippon’s data sheets are unusually open about how the coverage is worked out: from the paint’s volume solids and the dry film thickness, with no allowance for losses. They name porosity, application method, dilution, film thickness and opacity as factors and put the loss at 30% to 50% or more. On a rough or thirsty wall, try a figure 30% lower in the coverage box to see the other end.
Outside: sealer first
Choose House exterior and Weatherbond Ultimate takes over at 10 m² per litre. Nippon’s recommended system is a sealer coat and two coats of Weatherbond; the sealer can be a separate line through Primer first, with the coverage from its own tin. For Weatherbond Quartz the page and the data sheet disagree (9 – 11 against 10 – 12), and the calculator uses 9.

Two coats. Rooms: 4 × 3.5 m room with 2.5 m walls, one door, one window, walls and ceiling (ceiling only for a ceiling paint). Outside: 8 × 10 m house with 5.2 m walls and two gables.
