Set up for New Zealand homes

The paint calculator here begins with Wash&Wear Low Sheen, whose New Zealand data sheet gives 16 m² per litre, and it buys paint in the pack sizes dulux.co.nz lists, from 1 to 15 litres. The bedroom already entered comes to about 6 litres for two coats of walls and ceiling: one pack each of 4, 2 and 1 litre.

The menu also holds Wash&Wear Matt, Ceiling White, two Weathershield exterior finishes and Timbacryl. Choosing one changes the coverage figure and the packs together.

Pack sizes differ from Australia

Dulux sells the same product names on both sides of the Tasman, but not always in the same sizes. In New Zealand, Ceiling White and Weathershield Matt come only in 4 and 10 litres, so a small ceiling can end up with more paint left over than the litres suggest. The “least left over” line shows exactly what you will have spare.

Weatherboards and bare timber

For a weatherboard house pick House exterior and then Timbacryl. The calculator subtracts doors and windows and adds the gable triangles under the roof. Timbacryl’s data sheet asks for 2 or 3 coats depending on the condition of the timber, and 3 on bare wood, so new boards need the Coats setting raised before you order.
