Photowall recommends 6–10 cm (2.5–4 in) extra on the width and the height for walls that aren't straight. Graham & Brown print made-to-measure murals in 50 cm (19.6 in) strips; check your maker's strip width.

Batch numbers. Rolls printed together share a batch number on the label; rolls from different batches can differ slightly in colour. Buy every roll at once, check the numbers match before you cut, and keep the label.

An estimate for planning. Sloping ceilings, stairwells and walls out of square take more paper: ask your decorator to check before you order.

Graham & Brown’s roll, pattern and paste

Opened from here, the wallpaper calculator is already on Graham & Brown’s 52 cm by 10 m roll, with Meadow, which repeats every 53 cm on a straight match, and the brand’s Premium Wallpaper Adhesive. Swap in the design you’re actually buying: its repeat and match type are under product details.

The brand sorts papers into three matches: free, with no visible join; straight, where the motif continues across at the same height; and offset, where it continues a stated distance down the next length. Most of its bigger prints are offset. Esther drops 39 cm of a 78 cm repeat, Glasshouse 50 cm of a metre. Choose Offset and put in both numbers.

What the table shows

Three Graham & Brown designs in one bedroom, 4 m by 3.5 m, ceilings at 2.4 m. Meadow and Esther come to 10 rolls, as each roll gives three lengths. Glasshouse needs just 8, metre-long repeat and all: with its 50 cm drop a 2.5 m cut ends exactly where the next length starts, so a roll gives four. No percentage allowance would show that, which is why the tool counts strips rather than square metres. Buy from a single batch and keep a label handy in case you need to reorder.
