Cole & Son’s method, drop by drop
The wallpaper calculator loads in Walls mode on one wall, 4 m wide and 2.6 m high, using Cole & Son’s roll, 0.52 m wide and 10 m long, and Wavelet. That wall takes 8 widths; each is 2.6 m plus 10 cm, lengthened to five repeats, 3.2 m. A roll gives three, so 3 rolls.
Cole & Son’s rule of thumb for a large repeat, adding the whole repeat to the height, gives 3.24 m here and the same three per roll. The difference appears at other heights, where lengthening to the pattern is shorter than a full extra repeat and a roll sometimes gives one more. The working shows both the cut and the number per roll.
Half drops and third drops
The brand uses four matches: random, straight, half drop and third drop. Half drop is exact in the tool. For a third drop pick Offset and type a third of the repeat: strips need to start at three different points in the design, and every cut stops at whichever of the next two comes first, so it works whichever way round you hang. Order the whole quantity together and make sure the batch numbers agree.
Cole & Son papers in the calculator
A 4 × 3.5 m room with 2.4 m walls, one 762 × 1981 mm door and one 1.2 × 1.2 m window, 10 cm trim a drop, each paper on its own roll. The first one is what the calculator above starts with.
