The vampire face

The face is built from four cuts and two shaved brows. The eyes are black wedges angled down toward the nose, the nose is a small triangle, and the mouth is a wide curve across the lower half. Four white teeth are left standing in the mouth: two long fangs hanging from the upper lip and two small teeth rising from the lower one. The brows are gray bars, shaved. At the default medium size it prints about 6 × 4.8 inches.

In the Lit pumpkin preview the mouth becomes a bright opening with the fangs in dark silhouette against it: that is the effect to aim for.

Order of work

  1. Poke the outlines of the eyes, the nose, the mouth and each tooth.
  2. Cut the eyes and the nose.
  3. Cut the mouth in sections between the teeth, starting in the middle. Leave the fangs until last and cut the gaps beside them with the saw’s tip.
  4. Shave the brows once all the cutting is done, so you never press on a thinned area.

Getting the look

A vampire face looks sharpest with the light low in the pumpkin, so it shines up through the mouth past the fangs. If a fang breaks, pin it back with half a toothpick pushed in from the side. For more faces in this style, see the scary pumpkin stencils, which include an angry face and a stitched grin.
