How the starter garage is laid out
The garage is 22 × 22 ft inside, with a 9 ft ceiling, a 16 × 7 ft garage door in the top wall (the far wall when the page opens) and a house door near the bottom of the left wall. Both vehicles are parked nose to the garage door, a foot short of it:
- Left bay: the sedan, with 4 ft 2 in of floor on its left for the walk to the house door, and the workbench against the back wall behind it.
- Right bay: the SUV, with a shelving unit on the back wall behind it and a second one on the right wall, 30 in from its side.
- Between the two: 20 in, enough to squeeze past but tight for opening two doors at once.
Plan around the cars, not the walls
A garage plan is mostly about the space left over, so start from real vehicles. The sizes here come from Toyota’s product information for the 2026 Camry, the 2026 RAV4 and the 2026 Tundra. Select a vehicle in Top view and read its dimension lines: they measure from the body to the walls, the other vehicle and the shelves, which is the space you have to open a door, carry groceries or wheel out a bike.
The door size follows C.H.I. Overhead Doors, whose general guide is 16 × 7 ft for a double door and 8 × 7 ft for a single. If you’d rather have two single doors, delete the wide one, add two narrower ones and park each vehicle in front of its own. A door wider than 1.6 m (5 ft 3 in) is shown as an overhead door, in 3D and on the printed plan, where a dashed outline marks the space it takes under the ceiling when open.
Make it your garage
Measure inside the walls at floor height and type the size under Room. Add the things that really live in your garage (bikes and bins as a Box, a second fridge, a freezer), then move the cars until every door opens. Print the plan before you buy shelving.
What the starter garage holds
The room is 22′ 0″ wide and 22′ 0″ long, with a 9′ 0″ ceiling. Every piece starts at the size below; select it to type your own.
| Piece | Width × depth × height |
|---|---|
| Car | 6′ 0.5″ × 16′ 1.5″ × 4′ 9″ |
| SUV | 6′ 1″ × 15′ 1″ × 5′ 6.5″ |
| Workbench | 6′ 0″ × 2′ 0″ × 3′ 0″ |
| Shelving unit × 2 | 4′ 0″ × 1′ 6″ × 6′ 0″ |
Edits you make here are kept for this page only, so your plan on the main room planner stays as it was.
