Which sign for which currency
The Unicode Character Database notes which country or currency each sign is for. The main ones in this set:

Historical signs are here too: ₣ (French franc), ₧ (Spanish peseta), ₯ (Greek drachma), ₢ (Brazilian cruzeiro), ₳ (the former Argentine austral), ₶ (livre tournois, France, 13th to 18th centuries) and ₷ (spesmilo, a historical currency associated with Esperanto). ¤ is the generic sign for an unknown currency.
Newer signs on older devices
Some signs are recent: ₹ arrived in Unicode 6.0 (2010), ₾ in 8.0 (2015) and ₿ in 10.0 (2017). A device that hasn’t been updated in years may not draw them, so in an invoice or a price list meant for everyone, spell out the code as well.
Writing prices
Put the sign where the currency’s own style puts it. The symbol alone can be ambiguous ($ is used by many countries), so for international prices add the three-letter code, such as USD or MXN.
