Five teams can’t all play at once, so a 5 team round robin takes five rounds with one team resting each time. Every team plays the other four exactly once, two at home and two away, and gets exactly one bye.
The five rounds
| Round | Game 1 | Game 2 | Bye |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 v 5 | 3 v 4 | 1 |
| 2 | 5 v 3 | 1 v 2 | 4 |
| 3 | 3 v 1 | 4 v 5 | 2 |
| 4 | 1 v 4 | 2 v 3 | 5 |
| 5 | 4 v 2 | 5 v 1 | 3 |
This is the Berger table for six with team 6 as the bye, which is how FIDE’s tables handle an odd count. The first-named team is home.
Fitting it into one session
With two courts or tables, each round is one time slot and the event takes five slots. With one court, each round becomes two slots (put 1 in At the same time): ten games back to back, and the team on a bye gets a longer rest. If the session is short, set Rounds per day to split it over two evenings; the print puts each day on its own page.
A fair table with byes
Because every team plays the same four games, points compare directly and nobody gains from the bye. The table shows games played (P), so mid-event you can see who has a game in hand. When two teams finish level, head-to-head comes first, then score difference. For a closer contest, the Double round robin format gives ten rounds and two byes each.
