An estimate from the growth of about 390,000 purebred puppies in normal body condition, seen at US vet clinics (open data from Salt et al., 2017), not a veterinary assessment. Puppies grow at different rates; if your puppy's growth worries you, ask your vet.

    Labradors on the large-breed curve

Labs belong to the large-breed group of the growth data: breeds whose adults usually weigh 51 to 100 lb. The AKC standard spans 65 to 80 lb for a dog and 55 to 70 lb for a bitch, 10 lb apart at the midpoints. The page opens with an 18 lb puppy weighed at 12 weeks. That points to roughly 68 lb at two to three years of age, somewhere between 52 and 94 lb.

Why so wide? At 12 weeks a large-breed pup carries only about a quarter of the weight it will end up with, and puppies differ a lot in how far along they are at that age: in the data, 8 in 10 were somewhere between 19% and 35%. Each later weigh-in pins your Lab down better.

    The Lab chart below

Two columns, one per sex, each heading for the middle of its standard. A dog on that path passes 28 lb at 16 weeks, 48 lb at six months and 66 lb at a year; a bitch 25, 42 and 57 lb. Your Lab doesn’t have to match them. A pup that tracks a little above or below from week to week is simply aiming for a different adult size.

Weight on its own says little about whether a puppy is lean. Your vet judges body condition by look and feel, and that tells you more than the scale; ask if your Lab stops gaining or seems too heavy or too thin.
