An estimate from the growth of about 390,000 purebred puppies in normal body condition, seen at US vet clinics (open data from Salt et al., 2017), not a veterinary assessment. Puppies grow at different rates; if your puppy's growth worries you, ask your vet.

    The giant-breed curve

Great Danes are a giant breed: the AKC standard gives 140 to 175 lb and 30 to 32 inches at the shoulder for males, 110 to 140 lb and 28 to 30 inches for females. Giant puppies begin furthest from their adult size. At 8 weeks a giant-breed pup has about 12% of the weight it will reach, at 12 weeks about 23% and at 16 weeks about 34%, where a toy pup is already at half.

So the example here, 32 lb at three months, points to about 141 lb, anywhere from 111 to 190 lb. That span narrows with every weigh-in over the following months.

Why a Dane’s estimate is rougher

Giants are thin on the ground in the data behind this calculator: just two breeds, some five thousand dogs, where the toy, small and large groups each have well over a hundred thousand. The study’s own published charts stop at 40 kg (88 lb), about half a grown Dane. Read the estimate as a rough guide and compare it with the breed standard shown in the tool.

In the chart below, the 157.5 lb male is about 144 lb when he turns one, the 125 lb female about 114. If you have questions about how quickly your Great Dane is growing or what to feed it, ask your vet.
