The widest gap between the sexes
The German Shepherd standard is broader than the Labrador’s or the Golden Retriever’s: males 65 to 90 lb and 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder, females 50 to 70 lb and 22 to 24 inches. From the lightest bitch to the heaviest dog that is 40 lb, against 25 lb for a Labrador. So when the calculator compares your estimate with the standard, look at the line for your puppy’s sex rather than the whole span.
The example weigh-in, 19 lb at 12 weeks, gives about 72 lb, with a spread of 55 to 99 lb. For a male that is well inside his range; for a female it would be above hers, which is a hint that this particular puppy is either a male or a big female.
What the shepherd chart shows
One column is a dog that ends up at 77.5 lb, the other a bitch that ends up at 60. At 12 weeks they weigh about 20 and 16 lb; at six months 52 and 40 lb; at a year 71 and 55 lb. The gap between them widens every month, which is why a puppy’s sex tells you almost as much as its breed here.
Shepherds are expected to live 12 to 14 years, according to the AKC; when yours is an adult, see what its age means in human years with the dog age calculator.
