What this page sets up
The calculator opens on the hedge: a 50 futures bet at +800 whose team has reached the final, with the other side priced at −200. It works out the stake on the other side that pays the same whichever team wins, and what you’d make either way. Switch Hedge to to Break even if the hedge wins to stake only enough to get your money back if your bet loses, keeping more of the upside if it wins.
Reading the result
The hedge stake is what to bet on the other side. Below it are the two outcomes: your net result if your original bet wins, and if the hedge wins. With an equal hedge the two are the same; with a break-even hedge the hedge side comes out at zero. If both results are negative, the prices don’t allow a profitable hedge and you’re only choosing how much to lose.
Before you place it
Prices move, so check the hedge price just before you bet, and make sure both bets settle on the same event and rules (extra time, overtime, void conditions). This is maths only: nothing here is a recommendation to bet. The table under this text shows how the hedge stake and the locked-in result change as the price on the other side moves.
Hedging a 50 bet at +800
The stake on the other side, and the result, for a range of hedge prices. Equal makes the same either way; break even gets your stake back if the hedge wins and keeps the rest of the upside.
