A ten-minute timer the room can read
Ten minutes is a common block in a lesson or a workshop: a group task, a short quiz, a reading sprint, a break. This page opens with the Pie display: a coloured disc that shrinks as time passes, so people at the back can see roughly how much is left without reading numbers. Press F for full screen on a projector or a smartboard; the digits stay under the pie for anyone who wants the exact time.
A short ping plays at two minutes left, quieter than the alarm, as a cue to finish up. When time is up the alarm rings for up to a minute or until you press Stop alarm, Esc, or click the display.
Running a lesson with it
- Set it and leave it. While the timer runs, the page keeps the screen from going to sleep, so the projector doesn’t blank mid-activity.
- Adjust on the fly. Press + to add a minute if a group needs longer, or Pause if the class is interrupted.
- Label it. Type what the time is for (Group task, Quiz) in the label box. It shows above the pie and in the tab title.
- Pick a sound for the room. The chime and bell are calm; the buzzer is for a busy hall. Press Test before class.
Other uses
Ten minutes is also a common length for a short workout, a stretch or meditation session, a quick call, or a break between longer work blocks. For a presentation slot or a longer task, the 15 minute timer also pings two minutes before the end.
Tips
Your colour, sound and volume are remembered in this browser, so the timer looks and sounds the same next lesson. To give another teacher the same timer, press Share result: the link opens it with your length, label and display, ready to start.
