Forty-five minutes, start to finish
Forty-five minutes is the length of many school periods, a gym class, a typical meeting slot and a long focus session. This page opens at 45:00 with the Ring display, a ping five minutes before the end and a Bell at zero. Press Start (or the space bar) and leave it: the time is exact even in a background tab, and the tab’s title shows how much is left.
A lesson or a meeting
Teachers can put the ring on the board with Full screen (F): the class sees the period draining away, and the ping at five minutes is the cue to pack up, collect worksheets or set homework. In a meeting, the same ping is the moment to agree on next steps before the slot runs out. Type the agenda item in the Label box and it shows above the ring.
A study or work block
Many people work in blocks longer than a 25-minute Pomodoro. For 45 minutes of focus followed by a break, tick Repeat under Display and sound and pick a Break between rounds, for example 15 minutes: the timer then switches between work and break by itself, and shows which round you are on. Put your phone away, start the timer and work until the bell.
Workouts and cooking
A 45-minute workout, a run or a bike ride on the trainer: start the timer when you begin and the five-minute ping tells you it’s time for a cool-down. In the kitchen, use it for a roast, a cake or a stew; the ping gives you five minutes to check it and heat the plates. Press + to add a minute if it needs longer.
For half the time, use the 30 minute timer; for a full hour with a ten-minute warning, the 1 hour timer.
