Reading a happy face
Kaomoji show joy mostly through the eyes and the arms:
- Eyes:
^ ^and⌒ ⌒are closed, smiling eyes;≧ ≦are eyes squeezed shut with laughter;☆ ☆and✯ ✯are starry-eyed. - Mouths:
▽laughs,‿smiles,∀grins,ωbeams softly. - Arms:
ヽ ノ,\ /and٩ ۶raise the hands, which turns a smile into a cheer.٩(◕‿◕)۶uses two Arabic-Indic digits, nine and six, as fists in the air.
So (^_^) is quietly pleased, (≧▽≦) is laughing hard, and \(^o^)/ is celebrating with both arms up.
Good matches for common messages
- Thanks or good news:
(^▽^),(◕‿◕),(⌒‿⌒). - Something funny:
(≧▽≦),(*≧ω≦*). - A win or a finished task:
\(^o^)/,╰(▔∀▔)╯. - Starstruck:
(☆▽☆),(✯◡✯).
Full-width or half-width?
Many happy faces exist in two sizes. (^▽^) uses the full-width circumflex ^ (U+FF3E), a character made to sit in a Japanese text grid, while (^▽^) uses the ordinary keyboard caret ^. The full-width version takes up more room; the half-width one is narrower and fits better at the end of an English sentence. The same goes for (^v^) against (^_^). Both kinds are in the Happy group, so pick the width that suits the line you’re writing.
For even more energy, the Dance & music and Magic & sparkles groups (tap All) have faces that throw confetti and sparkles, like (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧. Every face you copy is kept in Recently copied in this browser, and Share result sends your picks as a link. For a big “Congrats” spelled out in letters, try the big letters maker.
