Pink noise, ready to play
Press Play to hear pink noise generated live in your browser. It is built from white noise through a set of filters that tilt the spectrum down by 3 dB per octave, the same approach used by audio test generators. It never repeats, so there is no loop to notice, even after hours.
Pink noise sits between the other two classic noises. It has more body than white noise and more air than brown noise. Many people describe it as steady rain on a roof, wind through trees or a waterfall heard from nearby. On the screen, its ridges spread fairly evenly across the width, from low on the left to high on the right.
Using it
- For sleep: set the sleep timer and a fade-out, keep the volume low, and turn the Tone down a little if the top end feels sharp.
- For focus: a quiet, steady background helps cover voices and clatter in a busy room or an open office. Try it at a low level under a stream or rain.
- For testing: pink noise at a fixed level is handy for checking speakers left and right. The full tone generator on this site does precise test tones too.
Mixing
Every sound in the generator has its own slider, so you can bring pink noise down and add brown noise for more depth, or switch on rain for texture. To pass your blend on, Share result turns it into a link with the sounds and their levels.
