A complete first meditation in five minutes
Sit comfortably on a chair or a cushion, or lie down, and press Start. You get 10 seconds to settle, then three strikes of a singing bowl mark the beginning. The breath awareness prompts appear softly on screen: find the breath where you feel it most clearly, at the nose, the chest or the belly, and rest your attention there. When the mind wanders, and it will, notice where it went and come back. That coming back is the exercise.
With five minutes, the prompts are spread out so there are only a handful: enough to help, not so many that they get in the way. Turn on Read the prompts aloud to hear them with your eyes closed. A last prompt comes about 45 seconds before the end, and the bowl rings again at 5:00.
Making it a habit
Five minutes fits almost anywhere: after waking up, at lunch, before bed. The Your practice section counts your streak of days in a row and your total minutes in this browser, which is a simple way to keep going. Once five minutes feels short, add a minute at a time with +1 min, or move up to ten.
Other ways to use five minutes
Switch the guidance to Silent for a plain timer with bells, add a soundscape like rain or ocean waves, or pick a different scene. The ring on this page empties as the time passes, so a glance tells you how far along you are, or hide the clock altogether under Timer.
