How this session runs
Press Start and take 10 seconds to settle. The singing bowl rings three times, and 20 minutes begin. At 5, 10 and 15 minutes a single bowl strike marks the time; at 20:00 the bowl rings three times to end. The top of the screen counts down to the next interval bell, and the minutes go to Your practice when you finish.
The Night sky scene turns very slowly, like a long-exposure photograph, with the occasional shooting star. The progress line along the bottom edge fills as the session goes on.
Sitting for twenty minutes
Twenty minutes is a common length for an established daily practice, and many traditions use it. It gives time for the restless first minutes to pass and for a steadier stretch to follow. The interval bells help in two ways: you don’t need to wonder how long is left, and each bell is a small cue to notice where your attention is and bring it back.
Adjusting
Pick a different bell or number of strikes, set the interval to every 10 minutes for a single halfway bell, or add +1 min during the session. If you’d like a quiet background, Soundscape has rain, a stream, wind or a low drone that fade in and out with the session. To time the same session in a group, sit once and send everyone the Share result link: Use this timer sets up the same bells for them.
