This page opens with a Robot voice tuned for Discord: a little extra distortion and a short echo, so the effect stays recognisable through Discord’s voice processing. Pick any other voice if you prefer; the steps below work the same.
The easy way: send a clip
- Press Start recording, say your line and stop.
- Try voices until you like one, then press Download MP3.
- In Discord, drag the MP3 into the chat, or use the + button to upload it. It plays inline for everyone.
This works on any computer and on phones, needs no setup, and nothing leaves your device until you upload the file yourself. Files count toward your account’s upload limit; a minute of MP3 is about 1.2 MB.
Live in voice chat: a virtual audio cable
A web page can’t appear as a microphone, but a virtual audio cable can carry the page’s sound into Discord. It is a small audio driver that shows up as both a speaker and a microphone: CABLE Input and CABLE Output for VB-Cable, BlackHole 2ch for BlackHole.
- Install a virtual cable from its official site: VB-Audio Virtual Cable (Windows, macOS) or BlackHole (macOS). Restart if asked.
- On this page, press Start live voice (no recording) and allow the microphone. Live voice runs with no time limit and keeps going when the tab is covered or minimised; keep this tab open (closing it stops the voice).
- Send the browser’s sound to the cable:
- Windows 11: Settings › System › Sound › Volume mixer. The browser only appears there while it is playing, which is why step 2 comes first. Set its output device to CABLE Input.
- Windows 10: Settings › System › Sound › Advanced sound options › App volume and device preferences, and set the browser’s output to CABLE Input.
- Mac: in Audio MIDI Setup, create a Multi-Output Device with your headphones and the cable (BlackHole 2ch, or CABLE Input for VB-Cable), and make it the system output. With the cable alone as the output you hear nothing yourself.
- In Discord, User Settings › Voice & Video: set Input Device to CABLE Output (VB-Cable, on Windows or Mac) or BlackHole 2ch, and Output Device to your headphones, not Default, so other people’s voices don’t go into the cable. Set Noise Suppression to None and turn off Automatic Gain Control. Echo Cancellation can also muffle effects; try it off if you wear headphones.
Expect about 45 ms of delay plus your system’s. Every other sound the browser plays also goes into the cable, so close video tabs first. To hear your own changed voice on Windows, open the Sound control panel › Recording › CABLE Output › Properties › Listen and tick Listen to this device with your headphones. When you’re done, press Stop live voice and set Discord’s input back to your microphone.
If it doesn’t work
No sound in Discord usually means the browser isn’t playing into the cable: check the volume mixer while live voice is on. Robotic crackle or dropouts point to a sample rate mismatch; set the cable and your microphone to 48 kHz in your system sound settings. If the effect sounds weaker to others than to you, Discord’s Noise Suppression or automatic gain is still on.
