On the 15th and the last day, 2027 has 24 paydays, two in every month, from Friday, January 15, 2027 to Thursday, December 30, 2027. In 9 cases the date is a weekend or federal holiday and the check comes the business day before.
What this page sets up
The calendar opens on twice-a-month pay on the 15th and the last day of each month. When a payday lands on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday it moves to the business day before, as many employers do; switch it to the business day after if that’s your employer’s policy. The paydays that move are listed in the table below, and every month keeps exactly two paychecks.
Moved to the day before, a payday on the last day of the month can’t slip into the next month, and one on the 15th stays in its month too, so the year always has 24 paydays, two a month. That’s the appeal of the schedule: an annual salary divides into 24 equal checks, and monthly bills line up with them.
What each paycheck covers
Semi-monthly pay periods are often the two halves of the month, the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to the end, but some employers pay a few days after a half ends, so the check on the 15th may cover the second half of last month. Your pay stub shows the dates. Because February’s second half is shorter than August’s, hourly pay on a semi-monthly schedule varies more from check to check than on a biweekly one, where every period is 14 days.
State rules
Many states set a minimum pay frequency, and the Department of Labor keeps a table of them. California, for example, requires most wages to be paid at least twice a month on days set in advance, with work from the 1st to the 15th paid between the 16th and the 26th, and work from the 16th to the end of the month paid by the 10th of the next month. Texas requires employees who aren’t exempt from overtime to be paid at least twice a month, in pay periods with as nearly as possible the same number of days. Check your state labor office for the rule where you work.
Using the calendar
Download the .ics file to add every payday to your calendar, the PDF to print, or the spreadsheet to plan a budget. For pay on the 1st and 15th, the military schedule shows how those dates move: see the active duty pay dates. For weekly pay, see the weekly payroll calendar, and for every-other-week pay the pay period calendar itself.
