What this page sets up
The calendar opens on the National Finance Center’s cycle: pay periods of two weeks from Sunday to Saturday, and a direct deposit on the Monday nine days after each period ends. When that Monday is a federal holiday, the deposit moves to Tuesday; the table below lists the 2027 holidays and the deposits they move. The first deposit of 2027 arrives on Mon, Jan 4, 2027 and pays for Sun, Dec 13, 2026 to Sat, Dec 26, 2026.
These are the dates NFC’s online pay period calendar gives, and the rule comes from NFC’s payroll notice: direct deposits settle on the Monday after payroll processing, or on Tuesday for pay periods when Monday is a federal holiday. Paper checks now use the same Monday.
Monday deposit, Thursday pay date
NFC keeps an official pay date too: the Thursday after processing, which is the date of record with the Treasury. It’s why a pay period can show two dates. If you want the official dates instead, set the payday to a Thursday on the cycle, the gap to 12 days and the holiday rule to Keep the date, since NFC’s official pay date stays put on Veterans Day or Thanksgiving.
Pay period numbers and the leave year
NFC numbers pay periods by leave year. Pay period 1 of 2027 begins on Sunday, January 10, 2027 and the leave year ends on Saturday, January 8, 2028, the same dates OPM publishes. The calendar’s # column counts deposits in the calendar year instead, so pay period 1 of 2027 is row 3 there. Other payroll offices number differently, so compare dates, not numbers, with anyone paid elsewhere.
