What a Veo video carries
Google adds a SynthID watermark to the videos its Veo model generates, as it does for images from Gemini and Imagen and music from Lyria. What else is in the file depends on where it was made. Google Cloud signs videos from veo-2.0, veo-3.0 and veo-3.1 with C2PA Content Credentials issued by Google LLC, naming “Google Media Processing Services” as the app. The checker reads those credentials from the MP4 or MOV container, verifies the signature against the C2PA trust list, and also looks for IPTC digital source type labels and credit lines stored as XMP.
For a long or large video it reads the start and the end of the file, where MP4 and MOV keep their metadata, so even a multi-gigabyte recording is checked in seconds without leaving your device (Content Credentials are read in files up to 1 GB).
Reading the result for a video
- Google AI markers found: the credentials or labels say the video was made with Google AI. The SynthID watermark is then very likely there too, but only Gemini can confirm it.
- Content Credentials: invalid: the video was cut or re-encoded after signing. The history still tells you what the original export said.
- No AI markers in the metadata: normal for videos saved from TikTok, Instagram, X or messaging apps. It says nothing about SynthID.
Google has announced that partners such as NVIDIA (for its Cosmos video models) are bringing SynthID to their own content, but Gemini only recognises the watermark from Google’s own tools, so a “no” from Gemini doesn’t clear a video made elsewhere.
For any other file, use the SynthID checker.
