How Easy puzzles are made
Each Easy puzzle is generated in your browser from a random full grid. Digits are taken away in mirrored pairs, and after every removal a solver checks two things: the puzzle still has exactly one solution, and a person can still finish it using hidden singles only. Removal stops while 35 to 40 givens remain. So there is never a step that needs guessing, candidates lists or a clever pattern.
The one technique you need: scan a digit
Pick a digit, say 4. Find every 4 already on the board. Each one rules out its whole row, its column and its box. Now look at a box with no 4 yet: if only one of its empty cells is left open, the 4 goes there. This is called cross-hatching, and it is how most people solve Easy puzzles fast.
Tap a given 4 and every other 4 on the board lights up, and the lines and box around the cell you picked are tinted, so the cells still open stand out. Work through the digits from 1 to 9, then around again: each placed digit opens up new singles.
If you get stuck
Tap Hint. It highlights one box, row or column and says, for example, “Only place for 7 in the top-left box”, with the reason. Fill it in yourself, or let the hint’s button do it. With the mistake checker on, a wrong digit turns red at once, which is useful while you learn; many players switch it off once they are confident.
Solve a few and your best Easy time shows under the board. When Easy starts to feel quick, try the daily puzzle on a Monday, which is always Easy, or step up to Medium.
