How a Pix code is built
A Pix code (BR Code) follows the EMV merchant-presented QR format with Banco Central do Brasil’s own rules in its Manual de Padrões para Iniciação do Pix (version 2.10, August 2026). Each field is an ID, a length and a value. The Pix part carries the identifier br.gov.bcb.pix and the key in sub-field 01, or, in a dynamic code, a web address (sub-field 25) where the bank app fetches the charge. The amount (54), the currency 986 (reais), the country BR, the city and a transaction ID follow, and a CRC checksum closes the code.
Reading the result
- Key type: worked out from the key’s shape: e-mail, phone, CPF (11 digits), CNPJ (14 characters) or random key (EVP).
- Static or dynamic: static codes are reusable; dynamic ones carry a charge address instead of relying on the amount printed in the code, which the payer’s app ignores.
- Pix Automático: a code can also ask you to authorise future recurring charges. The scanner flags it, because accepting sets up payments beyond this one.
- Pix Saque and Pix Troco: a facilitator field marks a cash withdrawal code.
Before you confirm
Anyone can make a Pix code with any name in it. Your bank app shows the name registered to the key, so compare that name, the amount and, for a shop, that the code isn’t a sticker over the real one.
