Checking a fridge through the door
The tool opens with a four-door fridge made for a 36-inch opening (Samsung’s RF28K9070, at the size Samsung publishes for delivery: 35¾ inches wide, 29⅜ deep without its doors and 71⅞ high to the top of the hinges) and a doorway with 32 by 78 inches clear, the smallest the International Residential Code allows for a home’s main door. Replace them with your fridge’s figures from its spec sheet or delivery guide, and add every doorway, corner and hallway between the truck and the kitchen.
The fridge is kept upright: its top stays up. The tool lets it lean as far as 45°, as it might on an appliance dolly; that figure is the tool’s own assumption, not the maker’s, so tick the box off only if your fridge’s instructions say it may be laid down, and check how far it may lean.
Doors on or doors off
Makers give two depths: to the front of the doors and without them. Samsung’s guide for the RF28K9070 gives 34¼ inches with the doors and 29⅜ without. The table below runs both through doorways of different clear widths, measured the way the code measures them, with the door open, between the stop and the face of the door.
Before delivery day
Walk the route and measure the narrowest point, including gates and outside doors: LG’s measuring guide asks for at least 38 inches on the path to the door (33 inches for top- and bottom-freezer models), and warns the doors may have to come off. Check the height under light fittings and the turn into the kitchen, and leave the fridge standing before switching it on if it was tipped on the way.
