How no-guess mode works here
This page opens Expert (30 × 16, 99 mines) with No-guess already on. Click any tile to start. Before the board appears, a solver plays it from that click without seeing the mines. If it clears the board, you get it; if it would have to guess anywhere, the layout is dropped and the next one is tried. The search runs in a background worker, so the page stays responsive, and a short “Finding a board” note shows only if it takes a moment. You can switch levels above the board and keep No-guess on.
How often ordinary boards need a guess
We ran the same solver on 5,000 random boards per level, each with a safe opening first click, in September 2026. It cleared 90.3% of Beginner boards, 68.4% of Intermediate boards and only 13.8% of Expert boards without a guess. So on classic Expert, most games reach a point where logic runs out, which is exactly what this mode removes. The boards you get are no smaller for it: their 3BV averaged 172 on Expert, the same as ordinary boards.
When you feel stuck
A no-guess board always has a safe move somewhere. If no single number helps:
- Compare two numbers that share tiles. A 1-2-1 or 1-1 pattern often hides in a jagged edge.
- Count. Near the end, the mines left in the counter can decide the last tiles.
- Look at the whole region: if every way of placing its mines puts one on the same tile, that tile is a mine.
A loss on a no-guess board means a misread number or a wrong flag, so use See the board after a loss to find it, or Replay this board to play the same layout again (replays don’t count towards your stats).
