How to play the Bible imposter game

The game works like the classic imposter word game, with words from the Bible. Every player sees the same secret word, except the imposter, who only sees a hint word. Going round the circle, each player gives one word or short clue: for “Jonah”, someone might say “Nineveh”, “three days” or “storm”. Then the group talks it over and votes, and the leader taps Reveal to show the word and the imposter.

The Bible pack is already selected, set for 8 players, one imposter, a hint word for the imposter and a three-minute discussion timer. Change any of it before you tap Start game.

Picking a pack for your group

  • Bible: 64 people, places, objects and stories, from Abraham and Sarah to Paul’s letters. Good for teens, adults and mixed ages who know the main stories.
  • Bible for kids: 30 favorite Sunday school stories, each shown with a big picture on the card. Pick it in the Word pack list.

Tips for youth groups and Sunday school

  • Use it as a review: after a lesson, play a few rounds and then ask where each word appears in the Bible. A clue that was too obvious or too vague is a good way into the story.
  • Keep the hint word on for groups where not everyone knows every story; switch “Imposter sees” to Nothing for a harder game.
  • Short rounds: three or four rounds fit the end of a meeting. Play again keeps the players and draws a new word and a new imposter each time.
  • Model it first: a leader who knows the stories well can join the first round, so the group hears what a careful clue sounds like, then step out and let the group play.
  • No one left out: anyone who doesn’t recognize a word can ask a leader quietly before the clues start.

All 64 words in the Bible pack

Each word with the hint the imposter sees when “Imposter sees” is set to “A hint word”. Reading the list spoils the game for whoever reads it, so let the person who reads it sit out the first round, or add your own words.
